What it is: Finely ground, high-purity quartz (SiO2), chemically inert and very hard.
Key applications: A filler and body material in ceramics and tiles, adding hardness and controlling shrinkage; a high-purity silica source in specialty and optical glass; an extender filler for texture and abrasion resistance in paints and coatings; a mold and core material in foundry work; used in engineered stone and epoxy flooring for construction; a reinforcing filler in rubber and plastics; and ultra-high-purity grades for electronics and semiconductor applications.
