Washed China Clay is a beneficiated form of China Clay, produced by washing the raw material to remove impurities and improve its purity, consistency, and brightness compared to unprocessed crude lumps.
What It Is
Washed China Clay is China Clay that has gone through a washing process to remove sand, mica, and other impurities present in the crude, unprocessed material. This washing step improves the purity, consistency, and brightness of the clay compared to raw China Clay Crude Lumps, without taking it through the full fine-grinding and refining used to produce ready-to-use kaolin.
Key Applications
Washed China Clay is used in ceramics, sanitaryware, paints and coatings, plastics, rubber, and paper, wherever improved purity and brightness over crude lumps is needed but full kaolin-grade refinement is not required.
Choosing the Right Form
Washed China Clay sits between China Clay Crude Lumps and the fully processed China Clay (Kaolin) grade on the same processing spectrum. Crude Lumps are the least processed, minimally beneficiated form; Washed China Clay has been through the washing step for improved purity, consistency, and brightness; and China Clay (Kaolin) is the fully processed, ready-to-use grade. The right form depends on how much further processing you plan to do yourself and the level of purity your application requires.
